Special animation effects
Many of the animation effects are obvious, like sliding or
fading in and out, but scroll down the animation list and
there is a Special Effects section. It has items like Fireworks,
Flame, Flash Bulbs, Lens Flare and others. Not all may be
appropriate for your slideshow, but try them. Sparkle is a
great one for images.

K
eynote is an app for creating presentations like slide
shows containing headings, text, bullet points, images
and more. It is easy to add these objects to a slide to
create a static image, but there is so much more you can do with
them. For example, you can add interest to a slide by animating
one or more objects. A title could slide onto the page, an image
could flip, pivot, pop or perform other animated effects.
It is important not to overuse animation in your slides and if
everything spins and twirls onto the screen on every slide, it can
turn off your audience. Use animations occasionally and to just
a few objects. Make some items or even whole slides static, but
then wake people up with an animation.

Configure object animations in Keynote
Set animation order
Click ‘Build Order’ in the sidebar
to open this panel listing all the
animations. Click and drag an item
up or down the list to rearrange the
order in which they appear. Linked
animations are grouped.
Pick a Start
When should an animation start?
Choose ‘On Click’ to start when
the mouse is clicked. It can start
at the same time as the previous
animation (With Build x) or after it
has finished (After Build x).
When to animate
Build In animations occur on entering a slide
and are typically used to build the content, like
text and images. Action animations are often
used to reveal hidden items on clicking. Build
out are exit animations.
Customise an animation
Each animation has a number of
customisation options, such as the
direction of movement, the time taken, and
delivery methods. Change an option and
click ‘Preview’ at the top to see the effect.
