book shelves, book exchanges or other signs that this is a
university town.
Airport
Amazingly, one of the best restaurants in town is at the
airport. Sucre is famous for its spicy sausage. If you love
sausage but are afraid to take a chance, this is the best
bet; virtually greaseless but doesn’t sacrifice on taste.
Chinese food
At and near Plaza 25 de Mayo are several Chinese
restaurants with affordable food and good service.
La Repizza
Tel: (4) 645-1506
Not far from Plaza on Calle Ortiz 78
This low-cost place has a friendly, artsy atmosphere;
perhaps the best fixed-menu lunch in town or try the
vegetarian lasagna.
Joy Ride Café
Tel: (4) 642-5544
Calle Nicolás Ortiz 14 at Plaza 25 de Mayo
A multi-purpose gathering place with Euro style bar, a patio,
a book exchange, artwork and sometimes entertainment
and dancing, plus food.
La Taverne
Tel: (4) 645-3599
Avenida Aniceto Arce 35, a half block from Plaza.
Moderate prices considering the quality of this French,
Bolivian and international food. Video cassette French
films, French magazines on table at entrance. Housed in
Alliance Française.
Potosí
Doña Eugenia does not pop up at the main plaza, but
it’s worth looking for, by walking north to Calle Santa
Cruz and then staying on Santa Cruz until you reach the
intersection with Hermanos Ortega. Very authentic food,
including fricasé, a typical pungent stew, chicharrón (pork
cooked in its own fat), with a unique regional hot sauce
to add.
