› › HOW TO
Step Seven: Click here to down-
load the cracked concrete image
from Adobe Stock, and then
drag it from your Libraries panel
into your working file. Scale and
rotate the stock image so it fully
spans the carved-out area, and
press Enter. Make sure the layer
is beneath the Man layer in the
Layers panel, and then hold down
the Command (PC: Ctrl) key and
click on the Man layer thumbnail
to load that as a selection. Then,
hold down Shift-Option-Com-
mand (PC: Shift-Alt-Ctrl) and click
on the Man layer’s mask. This will
intersect the selection with the
mask shape, resulting in a selec-
tion of just the visible portions of
that layer.
Make sure the concrete stock
image is still the active layer, and
click the Add Layer Mask icon at
the bottom of the Layers panel to
create a layer mask from the selec-
tion. Switch to the Move tool, hold
down the Shift key, and tap the Up
Arrow key once and the Left Arrow
key once. This creates a slight
edge that gives the impression of
the statue having a thickness. The
edges may extend above his head
and beyond his cheek, so do a
quick touchup with the Brush tool
set to black and the Hardness at
100%. Just paint on the layer mask
to clean up those edges.
