lochs, moors, heather uplands, and maybe a
castle or two as you learn to navigate the often
unforgiving backcountry. There are lessons for
children, too. The Junior Off-Road program
puts kids in mini Land Rovers and teaches them
driving skills on a safe but challenging course.
Adding to Gleneagles’ allure is the recent
large-scale renovation that transitioned the prop-
erty to a modern country style—a combination of
tradition and innovation. Suites and rooms have
been refurbished to reflect elegance and com-
fort, seen in gorgeous tailored craftsmanship, a
new take on typical country fabrics like velvet
and leather, and generous floor plans.
Public spaces also have been reimagined,
Clockwise from top right: Grand Pavilion
Suite living room and dining room; the outra-
geous Out of the Blue cocktail experience; a
view of St. Paul’s Church from the roof deck
of Crescent Pavilion Suite.
Knightsbridge gem The Berkeley may be a
London classic, but it’s in a constant state of
innovation. The hotel’s latest contribution to
modern British style is a pair of game-changing
suites by architect André Fu.
The new Pavilion Suites are massive
by London standards—2,300 square feet
each—and designed like residential apart-
ments. The Crescent and Grand Pavilions
are surrounded by glass for (sometimes)
sun-drenched views of Belgravia and St.
Paul’s Church, and feature outdoor terraces
and gardens that are ideal for cocktailing
among the fabled London rooftops. The
interior design is all contemporary luxury,
epitomized by embroidered wallpapers,
bespoke chandeliers, and the generous use
of marble.
Also new at the hotel: Out of the Blue,
a surreal cocktail experience. This treat
for the senses takes place in an unmarked
room (really!) and involves scent diffusers,
IMAX-style video, and riotous surround-
sound—all in the name of rethinking precon-
ceptions and experimenting with abandon.
