Express the following statements in an alternative way using the short

form of the past passive participle.

For example:

Дом постро�или. Дом был постро�ен.

Кни�гу прочита�ли. Пробле�му разреши�ли. Но�вый зако�н при�няли.

Купи�ли но�вый компью�тер. Биле�ты про�дали. Потеря�ли мно�го

вре�мени. Клуб постро�или. Госте�й пригласи�ли. Реше�ние нашли�.

Что�-то/что-нибу�дь

To translate the word ‘something’ into Russian, a choice must be made

between что�-то and что�-нибу�дь. Что�-то refers to ‘something’ which

exists, but the identity of which is uncertain or unstated. Что-нибу�дь is

more vague, referring to ‘something’ or ‘anything’, the very existence

of which is in doubt. In consequence, что-нибу�дь is often associated

with the future tense, questions and the imperative, whereas что�-то is

found with the present and past tenses.

Examples:

Он тебе� дал что-нибу�дь? ‘Did he give you something/anything?’

Да, oн что�-то мне дал. ‘Yes, he gave me something’.
