The Orienteering Championship
welcomed men and women
athletes to take part in 3
separate race categories: Sprint
Relay, Sprint Finals and Middle-
distance finals, over the course
of the 3-day championship.


After the conclusion of all
three competitions, ETH Zurich
secured the gold medal in
the men’s Sprint Finals. The
University of Applied Sciences
Bern claimed the silver medal,
and ETH Zurich also earned a
spot on the podium by winning
the bronze medal in the same
category.


The Women’s Sprint Finals
saw another competitive race,
where University of Helsinki won
the gold medal, joined by the
University of Applied Sciences
Northwestern Switzerland on
the second position and INSA
Lyon on the third position.


The following races were the
Middle Finals in Gais/Hirschberg,
featuring competitions in
both the men’s and women’s
categories. In the men’s Middle
Finals, the University of Applied
Sciences Bern claimed the top
position, while participants from
ETH Zurich secured both the
silver and bronze medals.


The Women’s Middle Finals also
saw two representatives from
ETH Zürich on the second and
third place on the podium, while
Eötvös Loránd University took
home the gold medal.


The championship was ended
with the Sprint Relay in the town
of Appenzell in extremely rainy


weather, giving the athletes an
extra challenge to overcome
while navigating the 4-legged
course.

In this category, in the men’s
competition, ETH Zürich was
seen in the top spot, winning the
gold medal, while, the University
of Clermont Auvergne went
home with the silver and Aalto
University with the bronze
medal.

As the rain continued to get
heavier, the Women Relay teams
competed for gold, silver and
bronze medals. In this race,
University of Zürich won the
gold medal, the University of
Bern won the silver medal, while
the ETH Zürich won the bronze
medal.

Lastly, 30 mixed teams with
one woman and one man took
part in the 3rd and final category,
mixed relay. This race saw an
exciting and dramatic end to the
championships in Switzerland,
with the University of Bern
dominating from the start to
finish and winning the gold
medal, University of Applied
Sciences Bern held up the
silver medal and University of
Jyväskylä ended up taking home
the bronze medal.

The third European Universities
Orienteering Championship will
take place in Lodz, Poland from
24 to 27 of July, 2025.
