SELL GAMES 2023


TARTU, ESTONIA

The SELL Games is an international sports competition for students that has a


rich history dating back to 1923. It started as the International Regional Student


Sports Competitions in Tartu and later became known as the SELL Games.


The 38th edition of the SELL
Games, hosted by the Estonian
Academic Sports Federation and
the city of Tartu, marked the
100 th anniversary of the event,
making it a significant milestone
in its history.


Over 900 student-athletes
attended the competition over
the course of three days, in
which the students competed
in 15 different disciplines:
3x3 basketball, mini-football,
athletics, badminton, basketball,
beach volleyball, chess,
powerlifting, swimming, table
tennis, volleyball, wrestling, disc
golf, judo, and orienteering.


The SELL Games provide an
opportunity for students to
showcase their athletic abilities
and compete in a variety of
sports disciplines. At this
edition of the SELL games, 29
universities, coming from 7
different countries, took part in
the competitions, with Estonia
having the highest number of
universities with 9, Lithuania
and Latvia with 8, Finland with
2, and Croatia, Turkey, and USA
with 1 university.

The total medal tally of the
38 th edition of SELL Student
Sport Games was dominated by
Lithuania with 168 medals (71
gold, 50 silver, and 47 bronze),

followed by Latvia with 60
medals (14 gold, 23 silver, and
23 bronze), and Estonia coming
in third place with 57 medals (16
gold, 21 silver, and 20 bronze),
followed by the USA and Croatia
with one gold medal, and
Finland with one silver medal.

The Lithuanian universities
dominated the competition,
as they shared the highest
number of medals at this year’s
SELL Games. Vytautas Magnus
University won 44 medals
taking the title of champions,
Lithuanian Sports University
with 37 medals won the second
place, and Vilnius University

with 30 medals won the third
place.

On May 21, the SELL games
were officially closed, and the
next year’s hosting honour was
given to Kaunas, the second-
biggest city in Lithuania.

SELL Games are organised by
the national university sports
associations in the four founding
countries and held under the
patronage of EUSA and FISU.
