Cain. Following an exhaustive tour, Perry left. Jour-
ney dissolved in 1987, and Schon and Cain moved
on to other projects. A farewell recording,Greatest
Hits, was released in 1988. The apparent demise of
Journey proved to be merely a hiatus, however. Re-
united in 1996, Journey began performing again.


Impact Rather than showcasing individual stars,
Journey’s ensemble versatility allowed them to per-
form music across a wide stylistic spectrum, from ro-
mantic ballads to heavy metal. This led to a lack of
distinctive sound for which critics berated them, but
it also fueled their mainstream success.
