This past spring, Adrian College
junior Lauren Reed – named Harper
Creek High School’s Golfer of
the Decade following her prep
career, a year after graduating from
HCHS – was named co-Michigan
Intercollegiate Athletic Association
Player of the Year for having a
standout 2024 links campaign.
And then a couple weekends ago,
Reed got the opportunity to com-
pete in the 11th annual FireKeepers
Hotel Casino Championship at Battle
Creek Country Club via a sponsor’s
exemption.
Reed’s appearance in the
FireKeepers’ 144-player field lasted
only the opening 18-hole round on
Friday, June 7 – on an extremely
windy yet sunny and warm day. She
shot a round of 90, scoring a 48 dur-
ing her initial nine holes on the back
nine and then a 42 on the front nine,
and did not make the cut for the
remaining two days and 36 holes of
the event.
Nevertheless, Reed said her experi-
ence playing in the FireKeepers – an
Epson Tour: Road to the LPGA
event that featured professional
female players from around the globe

  • was “fantastic.”

“Playing with some of the best
of the best players in the world,
extremely good pro golfers, was just
kind of surreal,” she said.
“Obviously with the score I had,
things didn’t turn out the way I’d
wanted. But still, it was a great
overall experience, and I think the
knowledge I gained will definitely
help motivate me for my senior sea-

son at Adrian, as I can take some of
the things I learned from some of the
pro’s games here with me back to
college.”
