in the Cereal City also included
R.I.S.E. students and KCC students
who serve locally in leadership roles,
Wilson said.
“Today and in every location we
go to,” said Wilson, “I get the chance
to read to the kids who are part of
the R.I.S.E. corporation schools and
also talk to the college kids on site.
And today, I read a book to them –
‘Let The Children March’ – which
talks about the Children’s Crusade
in Alabama, and the kids asked me
questions about the book and about
me.
“It’s a great interaction and infor-
mative session,” Wilson continued,
“for both me and the children.”
Last Friday’s book reading session
involved about 30 local kids – and
Wilson noted that those 30 “are part
of about 15,000 R.I.S.E. kids around
the country.”
“They’re all experiencing this same
program, in about 100 different cities
in 29 states,” Wilson said.
“And what we’ve gone over the
last couple days with the parents
and the kids and the community in
Battle Creek,” he said, “are things
suggested which will go toward the
national R.I.S.E. program outlook
- so that local leaders can help and
support and encourage the kids in the
program here.”
The local leaders for R.I.S.E. in
Battle Creek are president Damon
Brown and vice president Jacqueline
Patrick-Jones.
