Manager Kevin Kemerling’s
Battle Creek Shamrocks adult city
league baseball team is represent-
ing the Cereal City in the National
Amateur Baseball Federation’s
Charlie Blackburn Major Division
World Series that’s taking place now
through Sunday in Naperville, IL.
The host team for the Series is the
Lombard (IL) Orioles, and it’s a Series
that is taking place for the first time
since 2013 outside of Battle Creek.
The Terry Newton-led Southern
Michigan Amateur Baseball
Association was the host group for
the Series from 2013 until last year,
with 10 championships decided at
Battle Creek’s Bailey Park (there was
no Series in 2020 due to Covid-19).
However, Newton said at the end
of last August’s World Series here
that the 2023 one would be the final
one in B.C. due to the SMABA
members all getting older and the
association being unable to put in
the time and effort to for B.C. to
continue to be the host site for the
Blackburn WS.
As a result, the winner of the recent

the first-place B.C. Shamrocks and
the second-place B.C. Merchants
didn’t automatically become the host
team for this year’s Series. Instead,
the winner – the Shamrocks – had to
go to an NABF regional tourney in
Manistee last weekend to qualify for
the Series.
And that it did.
Following are the city playoff
scores and the regional scores from
recent action:
CITY LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
- Monday, July 22: B.C.
Shamrocks 2, B.C. Merchants 1;
B.C. Merchants 11, B.C. Shamrocks
2 (both games at Bailey Park’s
Morrison Field). - Tuesday, July 23: B.C.
Shamrocks 8, B.C. Merchants 7.
Note: Shamrocks right-handed
pitcher Cam Reichel was the winning
pitcher in two games, pitching back-
to-back complete-game triumphs
on back-to-back days ... Last year,
the Merchants were the host team
for the World Series in B.C., and the
Shamrocks were a Series at-large bid.
NABF Manistee Regional - Thursday, July 25: B.C.
Shamrocks 6, Midland Tribe 3. - Friday, July 26: Midland Tribe 9,
B.C. Shamrocks 2; B.C. Shamrocks
