Manager Kevin Kemerling’s

Battle Creek Shamrocks adult city

league baseball team played in the

first National Amateur Baseball

Federation Charlie Blackburn Major

Division World Series to take place

outside of B.C. since 2013 last week,

competing in the NABF World Series

that was held in Naperville, IL.

The Series exited the Cereal City

after a 10-year run last August,

when Terry Newton of the Southern

Michigan Amateur Baseball

Association announced that the

SMABA would no longer be able

to host the series due to the associa-

tion’s aging membership.

Newton was the main man behind

Battle Creek getting another adult-

aged baseball world series in the

first place, by the way, after the Stan

Musial World Series (American

Amateur Baseball Congress-

affiliated) left town in the mid-2000s

after close to 60 years in the Cereal
City.
More on there being no adult-aged
world series again in B.C. will appear
in a future edition.
As far as the Shamorocks’ recent
NABF World Series situation in
Illinois ...
To get to the Series, the Battle
Creek-based squad placed first during
the city league’s regular season, and
then defeated the B.C. Merchants 2-1
in a best-of-three playoff series.
The Shamrocks then won an NABF
regional in Manistee to advance to
the World Series.
However, the Shamrocks’ stay in
Illinois was short-lived, as the club
lost all three of its pool play games
Wednesday through Friday, July
31-Aug. 2, and was eliminated from
further action.
In those pool play contests, the
Shamrocks lost to the Hackensack
(NJ) Troast 9-4; lost to the Buffalo
(NY) Battistoni Diesel 8-1; and lost

NABF World Series in Illinois

10-0 to the Beecher (IL) Muskies.
Only the top two teams in each of
the tourney’s three four-team pools
advanced to quarterfinal and semifi-
nal games.
In the quarterfinals, the Chicago
Clout defeated the Lombard (IL)
Orioles 12-9; and Beecher defeated
Brooklyn (NY) Sports Fever 9-4.
Note: Buffalo and the New Lenox
(IL) Pumas received quarterfinal
byes after pool play.
Then, in the semifinals, Buffalo
eliminated Chicago 7-5; and Beecher
eliminated New Lenox 7-5.
And finally, in last Sunday’s title
game, Buffalo defeated Beecher 8-6
for the 2024 NABF World Series
championship.
