The name Johnny Vick (left) was added to the New Level Sports Ministries’ athletic field last Saturday during a ceremony headed by NLS executive director Pastor Chris McCoy (right) – during the organization’s two-day Next Level Festival, which was formally recognized via a proclamation by Battle Creek Mayor Mark Behnke. The name of NLS’ athletic field is now Carson- Rizor-Vick Field – with Carson and Vick being founding members of the city’s inner-city youth football program, and Rizor being the architect of the field. Vick also received a key to the NLS building, located at 400 Michigan Ave. in downtown B.C. NLS was founded in 2001 and has gone on to touch the lives of over 10,000 as a non-profit youth support service. The organization’s huge athletic field – located between Cass and Kendall streets and Michigan Avenue on both sides – came onto the scene in 2015. Aside from McCoy, Vick and Behnke, other dignitaries attending last Saturday’s field re-naming event included Rep. Both Anderson and defending champ Chris Voegler shot 1-under-par 143s during regulation, and Anderson then made par to Voegler’s bogey on the Preserve No. 1 hole in the playoff to claim the 2024 crown.
