Executive Editor
Kellogg Co. process engineer
Glenn Quilan, 68, retired in 2018
having been diagnosed with multiple
sclerosis 20 years ago.
At that time, he was still able to
drive and function normally but
when the pandemic of 2020 hit, his
world got smaller and he found him-
self mostly inactive and bored.
That led to more decline in his
physical and cognitive abilities and
increased care taking for his wife,
Debra “Debbie” Quilan.
But earlier this year, Debra, learned
that they could help Glenn restore his
social opportunities and at the same
time he could also access some new
faces, meals, activities and medical
care, giving him what he needs and
what she needs.
“They offer a whirlpool bath and
it’s very secure, safe, he feels very
safe,” said Debbie. “And, it’s help-
ful because it’s scary for me at home
to give him a shower because of his
mobility. It’s a nice feature.”
Debbie Quilan was talking about
the Marian E. Burch Adult Day Care
and Rehabilitation Services that,
though it was temporarily closed
during the COVID-19 pandemic,
reopened in December of 2022.
“I feel Marian Burch has been
an immense blessing,” she said,
“because they have an option for him
to get out and do different things and
then I have quiet time. Otherwise,
he’s kinda home 24/7. We don’t
have any family around the area.”
Now with 50 clients, who can
attend as often or as seldom as they
want, the department of the Calhoun
County Medical Care Facility offers
free transportation that clients have
the option to use or not use.
The facility, complete with physi-
cal rehabilitation room, activities
rooms, nurses office, courtyard, din-
ing room, respite rooms and more,
has room for more clients, more vol-
unteers and more staff.
To showcase everything the depart-
ment has to offer, there will be a
public open house Sept. 19 starting
at 1 p.m.
Marian E. Burch to celebrate National
Adult Day Care Services Week
Retired Kellogg’s process engineer

Burch Adult Day Care twice a week
as his multiple sclerosis affects his
mobility and cognitive abilities. The
day care gives him a new social
outlet and provides respite for his

Annually, the third week of

as Adult Day Care Services Week,
