Denny Joe
Stahly, 61,
of Marshall,
Mich., passed
away Tuesday,
Sept. 3, 2024,
at home, of
Stiff Person
Syndrome.
He was born
Oct. 1, 1962,
to Dewain Stahly and Margaret
(Criner) Stahly-Harvey in Goshen,
Ind.
Denny was a 1982 graduate of
Coldwater High School. After high
school, he headed to Denver, Colo.,
to Auto Body school. On May 17,
1997, Denny married Susan “Sue”
Scott at Family Bible Church in
Marshall, Mich., and they moved to
Omaha, Neb. Denny was a lifelong
farmer, along with being a machin-
ist, having worked at various com-
panies in Bronson, Mich., Indiana
and Omaha, Neb. At the age of 45,
Denny had to take a medical retire-
ment due to Stiff Person Syndrome,
but he was very determined to
continue working around the house
and especially on his own cars and
tractor repairs. (He had very strong
hands and didn’t know his own
strength.) He attended Family Bible
Church in Marshall, Mich., and wel-
comed the Stephen Ministries into
their home.
Denny’s passion was bass fishing,
as he frequently entered many local
bass tournaments. He also enjoyed
deer hunting, being outdoors, build-
ing and flying model airplanes, and
target shooting. Denny, along with
Susan, relaxed by watching outdoor
shows on television. Their favor-
ite passion was fishing, going to
antique tractor shows, going to air
shows and museums, traveling to
different Bass Pro Shops and sev-
eral states.
Denny is survived by his lov-
ing spouse of 27 years, Susan;
his son, David Stahly of Jackson,
Mich.; his mother, Margaret Harvey
of Three Rivers, Mich.; his brother,
Donald Romine of Sturgis, Mich.;
his twin brother; Benny Stahly
of Three Rivers, Mich.; his sister
Sherry (Mike) Stahly-Whitehorn
of Okmulgee, Okla.; his half-
brother; Thomas (Kim) Romine of
Coldwater, Mich.; and his Aunt Ruth
and Uncle Carl Stahly of Coldwater,
Mich. He is also survived by many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by
father, Dewain Stahly, and his sister
Joy Harvey.
A Celebration of Life took place
Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at 11 a.m.
at Family Bible Church in Marshall,
Mich., with Randy Schwan officiat-
ing (with Stephen Ministries).

Brownell,
66, of Battle
Creek,
passed away
September
21, 2024, sur-
rounded by his
loving family.
Scott was born
July 18, 1958,
in Battle Creek, MI.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Douglas Alan and Mary
Louise (Blakeman) Brownell.
In his younger years, he was a
member of DeMolay, graduated
from Lakeview High School and
Western Michigan University with
a degree in Engineering. Scott had
a 30-year career as a Mechanical
Engineer and Program Manager for
Eaton Corp in Marshall.
On Dec. 30, 1983, he married
Mary E. Frazier at Redemption
Lutheran Church in Battle Creek.
Scott loved the outdoors. He and
Mary spent much of their free time
at their cottage on South Manistique
Lake, near Curtis, Mich., where he
would fish and duck hunt with fam-
ily and friends. Scott would also
travel the U.S. with Mary in their
RV, where he enjoyed visiting loved
ones, meeting new people, and tak-
ing in the beauty of the countryside
and national parks.
Scott loved to bring people togeth-
er. A 25-plus-year tradition, he host-
ed the annual Duck Dinner, gather-
ing family and friends to celebrate
the bounty of the fall hunt paired
with a robust selection of red wines.
He also enjoyed making internation-
al co-workers feel comfortable and
welcomed in a small town.
Scott is survived by his loving
wife, Mary; children, Emily (Nathen
Horne) Wright of Bronson, MI,
Robert Brownell of Kalamazoo;
grandchildren, Logan Wright,
Alexander Thrush; and brothers,
Garrett and Steven Brownell.
Visitation will be held Saturday,
Sept. 28, 2024, noon to 2 p.m., at
Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation
Services, Marshall, Mich., with the
funeral service starting at 2 p.m.,
officiated by Rev. Karl Strenge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial con-
tributions may be made to The
ALS Association or ALS Clinic at
University of Michigan.
