want people from Battle Creek to see
themselves in this space.”
In fact, that theme runs throughout
the hotel.
“There’s a lot of Battle Creek in
this hotel,” she said.
The Alloy Restaurant will be open
seven days a week and is open to the
public, said Jones.
“The way that this portion is
designed, it’s outward facing so we
really wanted to welcome the com-
munity into the space so you really
didn’t feel like you were going to the
hotel restaurant,” said Jones. “It is a
restaurant in a hotel so that’s why we
have these doors where people can
come through the courtyard and enter
the restaurant without going into the
hotel. We want this space to be very
inviting.”
The Alloy, which has a bar and a
wood fired oven, also offers break-
fast to guests and to the public.
“In the morning time, they’ll do
Starbuck’s coffee,” noted Jones, “so
that way, if you wanted to grab some
Starbucks before you went off to
work, you’d have that ability.”
And, an outdoor eating deck
overlooking the new courtyard, can
accommodate up to 40 people.
The courtyard, adjacent to Festival
Market Square event space, was
designed for the community to use.
“When you’re having an event in
the atrium, for instance,” said Ignash,
“there’s a garage door that opens
that leads directly out into this. It’s
also integrated into the city’s social
district so folks can congregate
and really enjoy the space. A lot of
downtown hotels don’t have greens-
pace like this. So we really wanted
folks to still have this natural feel
and a great place to get some fresh
air.”
And, it integrates with events at
Festival Market Square, she added.
“And, there are little doggie sta-
tions,” she said.
Overlooking the deck and visible
from Jackson Street is a mural by
Battle Creek artist Jaziel Pugh.
“We told him we wanted to
acknowledge the history of Battle
Creek,” said Ignash, “as well as what
we’ve made here and the fact that we
are a city of innovation and he really
took that concept and nailed it. He
did a great job.”
The hotel also sports Kellogg
Arena box offices, two outward fac-
ing and three on the inside.
“That way, when they have events,
you can get your tickets here and go
on into the arena,” said Jones.
The hotel is designed to not only
host guests in its various sized
rooms, including a Presidential Suite
with adjoining rooms, but to host
conferences, conventions, meetings,
wedding parties and other gatherings.
“People are already starting to
book,” said Ignash.
