Galesburg-Augusta senior Landen
Bouchard ran to a medal-winning
finish in the Division 3 boys' cross
country race at the annual Portage
Invitational Saturday at Portage West
Middle School.
Bouchard hit the finish line in 17
minutes 16.1 seconds to place 42nd.
The top 50 in each varsity race
throughout the day in Portage earned
medals.
The Division 3 boys' race included
443 finishers.
That time is a new personal record
for Bouchard by a little more than 13
seconds.
“That’s really awesome,” said cross
country coach Christina Thomas. “He
broke the high school record for cross
country boys. That’s the second time
he’s broke it this season. That’s really
awesome, too, that he’s doing so
well. He’s a senior so that makes me
kind of sad but I’m happy that he’s
doing really well.”
He also had a personal record run at
the Southwestern Athletic Conference
jamboree Sept. 25 where he placed
16th.
The SAC Championship race will
be held at the 131 Motorsports Park
Thursday, Oct. 10.
The G-A boys' team also had soph-
omore Nick Stevens 197th in 19:19.4
in Portage, junior Knighten Rockwell
239th in 19:52.6 and freshman
Ashton Dingee 240th in 19:53.2.
All three of them set new personal
records while finishing in less than 20
minutes for the first time.
The Galesburg-Augusta girls' team
had Ellesa Callender place 289th
in 26:12.7 and freshman Claire
Callender 327th in 27:47.6.
The G-A team will also set a new
kind of record as a whole Friday
night, Oct. 11, when they launch what
could become a new tradition for the
district.
The team will run the game ball
17.5 miles from Delton-Kellogg High
School to Maskill Field at Galesburg-
Augusta High School in time for the
football team’s homecoming game
with the Panthers.
Thomas said this has never been
done before.
“I was trying to come up with ideas
to involve my team in homecoming,”
XC Rams set personal records at Portage Invite;
team to run game ball to homecoming Friday
she said, “and try to get more visibil-
ity for them because as my husband
said, ‘all the ball sports get all the...’
you know what I mean. So, by them
running the ball into the stadium.
People will see them.”
The team will start at the Delton-
Kellogg’s parking lot after they are
driven to the location by Thomas.
“And, at about 3:30, they’re going
to start running,” she said, “and I
have a whole course laid out.”
The team will go through Hickory
Corners as two to three people at a
time run with the game football.
