The Marshall High School football
team (3-4) traveled to Pennfield (1-6)
on Oct. 11 and came
away with a 37-8 victory for its
third win of the season.
The Redhawks jumped on the
Panthers early in the first quarter
when running back Akin
Olapade scored on a big 72-yard
run just over two minutes into the
game to put the Redhawks up
8-0 after a two-point conversion.
Marshall remained in control
for much of the quarter until the
Pennfield defense came up with a
big play with just under three min-
utes left in the first.
Redhawks’ quarterback Austin
Miller rolled out to his right with
Marshall driving when
Panthers’ defensive back
Dre’Shaun Bailey intercepted a pass
and took it back 65 yards to give
Pennfield momentum and tie the
game at 8-8 after its successful two-
point try.
That would be the score after
12 minutes of play, but it was all
Marshall for the next 12 minutes,
with Olapade shouldering the load
once again.
Less than a minute into the second
quarter, Oladpade found the end
zone from four yards out,
then again from 18 yards just a few
minutes later for his third touchdown
of the first half.
Going into the break, the
Redhawks held a comfortable 22-8
lead.
The Panthers battled to try to hang
around in the third quarter, but the
Redhawks were too much
on both sides of the ball and started

to pull away for good when Miller

connected with Jace

Saunders for a three-yard touch-

down pass with less than five min-

utes left in the third. After

Carter Pratt ran in the two-point

conversion, the Redhawks extended

their lead to 30-8.

In the fourth quarter, Olapade

would add to his already big perfor-

mance with his fourth score of

the game, this time from a yard out

with 5:19 to play, to make the score

37-8 Marshall and put

the icing on the cake for the

Redhawks.

For the game, the Redhawks out-

gained the Panthers in total yards

Carter Boykins and Anna Keown

were announced Homecoming King

and Queen during halftime of the

varsity football game on Oct. 11.

292-98, with 238 of Marshall’s

yards coming via the rushing attack.

Of those 238 yards on the ground,

Olapade gained 198 of those for

Marshall to go along with his

four scores. Zack Hudson added 24

yards on the ground on two carries.

Through the air, Miller finished

7-of-13 passing for 54 yards and a

touchdown. Aiden Miller was

Marshall’s top receiver on the night

with 20 yards on two receptions.

Defensively, Matthew Hackworth

and Will Laditka led the Marshall

defense with five tackles

apiece, while Landon Burger added

four tackles. The Redhawks’ defense

also came up with two

interceptions in the victory.

For Pennfield, Brenden Back led

the rushing attack with 76 yards on

16 carries. At quarterback,

Calvin Paesens completed five

passes for 38 yards, while Bailey

caught four of those passes for

17 yards. Gavin May had a catch

for 21 yards while also leading the

Pennfield defense with nine

total tackles.
