The Calhoun County Senior
Millage Advisory Committee recently
announced the 2024 Joanne Konkle
Senior Services Achievement Award
recipients, Jan Tolf and Carol
Maynard, who were honored for their
dedication to improving the lives of
older adults in Calhoun County.
Tolf, the former project director
and CEO of NorthPointe Woods,
was recognized for her decades-long
leadership and commitment to senior
services in Battle Creek, according to
a county press release.
Prior to her role at NorthPointe
Woods, she developed the
Department of Senior Services at
Battle Creek Health Systems, now
known as Senior Health Partners.
Under her leadership, an affordable
senior residence facility was estab-
lished, which includes both assisted
living and independent living options.
In addition to her professional
accomplishments, she has supported
the United Way of Greater Battle
Creek, the Area Agency on Aging
Policy Board, and the Burnham
Brook Center (now the Kool Family
Community Center).
In 2000, she was named an Athena
Award honoree, recognizing her
role as a trailblazer and advocate for
women in the workplace.
“Jan’s exemplary service to the
senior community in Calhoun County
has earned her the 2024 Joanne
Konkle Senior Services Professional
Achievement Award,” the press
release stated.
Maynard, a leader at the Forks
Senior Center, has been involved
with the center since 2005 and has
served as board president for six
years.
“Her leadership has been vital to
the center’s success, particularly dur-
ing the challenges of the COVID-
pandemic, when she made weekly
welfare calls to center members and
delivered essential supplies to those
in need,” the press release noted.
She also leads fitness classes, coor-
dinates outreach efforts, and ensures
members feel supported and cared for
through personal check-ins, cards and
visits.
For her work to improve the lives
of older adults, she earned the 2024
Joanne Konkle Senior Services
Volunteer Achievement Award.
The Joanne Konkle Senior Services
Achievement Award was established
in 2017 in memory of Joanne Konkle
(1934-2018), a lifelong advocate
for senior. The award recognizes
individuals who have demonstrated
exceptional compassion, commitment
and leadership in serving older adults.
Jan Tolf and Carol Maynard were honored for their dedication to improving
the lives of older adults in Calhoun County by the Calhoun County Senior
Millage Advisory Committee  as recipients of the 2024 Joanne Konkle Senior
Services Achievement Award.
