In the 3rd month (Apr./May) of 1157, the Dismissed Emperor of
Chin appointed an Auxiliary General of the Guards as envoy to take
gifts to Hsia. On Oct.7, he appointed another Auxiliary General of
the Guards as envoy to congratulate the Hsia ruler on his birthday
(Chin shih 5:15b, 16a).
On Feb.1, 1158, the New Year’s Day, Hsia envoys congratulated
at the Chin court. On Feb.16, they congratulated on the birthday of
the Dismissed Emperor (Chin shih 5:16a).
On Oct.7, 1158, the Dismissed Emperor appointed an Auxiliary
General of the Guards as envoy to congratulate the Hsia ruler on his
birthday (Chin shih 5:16b).
On Jan.21, 1159, the New Year’s Day, Hsia envoys congratulated
at the Chin court. On Feb.5, they congratulated on the birthday of
the Dismissed Emperor (Chin shih 5:17a, 17b).
In the 9th month (Oct./Nov.) of 1159, the Dismissed Emperor
appointed an Auxiliary General of the Guards as envoy to congratulate
the Hsia ruler on his birthday (Chin shih 5:18a).
On Feb.9, 1160, the New Year’s Day, Hsia envoys congratulated
at the Chin court. On Feb.24, they congratulated on the birthday of
the Dismissed Emperor (Chin shih 5:18b).
On Jan.28, 1161, the New Year’s Day, Hsia envoys congratulated
at the Chin court. On Feb.12, they congratulated on the birthday of
the Dismissed Emperor (Chin shih 5:19b, 20a).
In the 8th month (Aug./Sep.) of 1161, the Dismissed Emperor
appointed an envoy to congratulate the Hsia ruler on his birthday
(Chin shih 5:22a).
While the Dismissed Emperor was absent on a campaign against
Southern Sung, his first cousin Wu-lu was enthroned as emperor of
Chin on Oct.27, 1161. This was Emperor Shih-tsung. On Dec.15, the
Dismissed Emperor, at the age of 40, was murdered in his camp by
his officers (Chin shih 5:24a; 6:2b-3a). In the 4th month (May/June) of
1162, Hsia envoys to the Chin court congratulated Shih-tsung on his
enthronement. They also offered regional objects and congratulated
(belatedly) on the emperor’s birthday.^41 On May 30, the Hsia envoys
were given a banquet. On June 1, they departed (Chin shih 6:7a, 7b).
In the 8th month (Sep/Oct.) of 1162, Hsia envoys to the Chin court
again congratulated (Chin shih 6:9a).
