that their state had been invaded by the Later Chou (Liao shih 6:3a).
On Jan.26, 955, Northern Han envoys to the Liao court offered
gifts (Liao shih 6:3b).
On Mar.17, 955, Northern Han envoys to the Liao court proposed
that their ruler present an honorific title to Mu-tsung. This was rejected
(Liao shih 6:3b).
On May 5, 955, Northern Han envoys to the Liao court sought
help against a Later Chou invasion (Liao shih 6:3b).
On Oct.3, 955, Northern Han envoys to the Liao court announced
that their ruler (Shih-tsu) was ill (Liao shih 6:3b).
On Nov.30, 955, Southern T’ang envoys to the Liao court offered
gifts (Liao shih 6:3b).
On Jan.6, 956, Northern Han envoys from Liu Ch’eng-chün to
the Liao court announced that his father (Shih-tsu) had died and that
he had succeeded him. This was Emperor Jui-tsung. He requested
recognition. Mu-tsung sent envoys to condole and sacrifice and to
recognize him (Liao shih 6:3b).
On Feb.2 and July 13, 956, Northern Han envoys were received
at the Liao court to discuss military matters (Liao shih 6:3b).
On Mar.7, 957, Southern T’ang envoys to the Liao court presented
a letter in a ball of wax (Liao shih 6:4a).
On June 5, 957, Northern Han envoys to the Liao court offered
gifts (Liao shih 6:4a).
On June 30, 957, a goodwill mission from the Later Chou was
received at the Liao court. At about the same time, Southern T’ang
envoys offered gifts (Liao shih 6:4a).
On Sep.1, 957, a goodwill mission from the Later Chou was received
at the Liao court (Liao shih 6:4a).
On Dec.27, 958, Northern Han envoys to the Liao court announced
that their country had again been invaded by the Later Chou (Liao
shih 6:4b).
In the 1st month (Jan./Feb.) of 960, Chao K’uang-yin overthrew
the Later Chou and enthroned himself (Sung shih 1:1b; Liao shih 6:5a).
This was Emperor T’ai-tsu, founder of the Sung dynasty.
In the 6th month (June/July) of 960,^47 Northern Han envoys to the
Liao court announced that there country was being invaded by Sung.
(^47) Liao shih gives the cyclical characters of keng-shen, but these did not occur in
the 6th month.
