orders on Oct.7 (Sung shih 34:6b; Chin shih 6:21a).
On Jan.30, 1169, the New Year’s Day, Southern Sung envoys
congratulated at the Chin court. They had received their orders on
Nov.5, 1168. On the same day, Chin envoys congratulated at the
Southern Sung court. They had arrived on Jan.26 (Sung shih 34:16b;
34:7a;Chin shih 6:22a).
On Mar.30, 1169, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court con-
gratulated on the birthday of Shih-tsung. They had received their
orders on Jan.8 (Sung shih 34:7a; Chin shih 6:22b).
On Nov.11, 1169, a Master of Writing of the Ministry of Punish-
ments and other Chin envoys arrived at the Southern Sung court to
congratulate on the birthday of Hsiao-tsung.^37 They had received their
orders on Sep.23 (Sung shih 34:8b; Chin shih 6:23b).
On Jan.19, 1170, the New Year’s Day, Southern Sung envoys
congratulated at the Chin court. They had received their orders on
Oct.24, 1169. On the same day, the Governor of the Capital and
other Chin envoys congratulated at the Southern Sung court. They
had received their orders on Nov.29, 1169 and arrived on Jan.15,
1170 (Sung shih 34:8b, 9a; Chin shih 6:24a, 24b).
On Mar.20, 1170, Southern Sung envoys to the Chin court con-
gratulated on the birthday of Shih-tsung. They had received their
orders on Dec.27, 1169 (Sung shih 34:9a; Chin shih 6:24b).
On June 24, 1170, Hsiao-tsung sent envoys to the Chin court to
seek a territorial adjustment and a change in the protocol by which
Southern Sung communications were received by the Chin. They
returned in the 9th month (Oct./Nov.) and reported that Chin had
agreed to release the coffin of Ch’in-tsung but that it would not change
the protocol (Sung shih 34:11a, 12a).
On Nov.30, 1170, a Notary of the Ministry of Military Affairs and
other Chin envoys arrived at the Southern Sung court to congratulate
on the birthday of Hsiao-tsung.^38 They had received their orders on
Oct.16 (Sung shih 34:12a; Chin shih 6:25b).
On Feb.7, 1171, the New Year’s Day, Southern Sung envoys
congratulated at the Chin court. They had received their orders on
