PUMP SOME IRON

Wall Market is an adult entertainment
district, but people there have to
work out too. In the original, Cloud
had to battle someone in a squat-off
in order to earn a blonde wig (it’s too
complicated to explain). It looks like this
time Tifa can get involved too, doing
pull-ups. The simple button-pressing
minigame has evolved into something
similar, but much flashier and more
fully-featured. Squat, Cloud, squat!

T

he original Final Fantasy VII didn’t just
impress us by looking great, but by
being varied enough for us to get
properly immersed in its world. At
times the action would switch from
straightforward running around, talking to people,
and doing battles to something very different. The
same is true of the remake. Some minigames have
now been given extra depth, and we’ve spotted
some new ones. Here’s what we’ve seen so far...

MINIGAMES

PEDAL TO THE METAL

One memorable section of the PS1 original had Cloud
riding down a highway, slashing enemies on bikes.
Expect even more of that here, as this time Cloud is
teaming up with Jessie, who will help him out riding
pillion. This suggests it’ll be a bigger part of the new
game than it was on PS1, where it only featured at
the end. New villain Roche has his own bike and loves
speed, so might his boss battle play out at top pace?

PLAYING

DARTS

Tifa’s bar and AVALANCHE’s hideout,
7th Heaven, in the Sector 7 Slums,
has a dartboard. This means that Cloud
can use his Mako-enhanced SOLDIER
powers to show just how accurate
he is... right? In the original game the
gang’s hideout was accessed via a
pinball table. Could that be making a
playable return too? After all, FFXV has
a variation of pinball as a minigame.
