Angla Windmills
Standing along the main
road from Kuressaare to
Leisi, the five remaining
wooden windmills at
Angla are an iconic
symbol of Saaremaa
Island. In the mid-19th
century there were 800
functional windmills on
the island.
Bishop’s Castle
The most important landmark in Kuressaare,
the castle has a powerful defence tower and a
slender watchtower, both unique features of
the architecture of the Teutonic Order. Inside
is the Saaremaa Regional Museum.
Kaarma Church, which
dates from the 13th
century, has a striking
15th-century pulpit. Karja Church
