Belonging to Something
When you belong to something like, say, a country club
or a gym, you’ll build relationships with your fellow mem-
bers. This is an excellent way to generate referrals. Here
are seven ideas for meeting new people in group-style
settings:
1.Throw a party. Invite clients and friends to a
catered wine and dinner party on you. This will
bring you closer to your clients. And what do
your dinner guests all have in common? You! The
talk of the party will probably be you, which is
good. They’ll share the experiences they had
working with you, and they’ll go home ready to
spread the referrals to everyone they know.
2.Join a gym.Not only is it a good idea to belong
to a gym for physical and health reasons, but it’s
a great way to meet new people who are also
members.
3.Play golf.Golf, which is a very social sport, has
long been considered the sport of the elite. So
chances are you’ll be mingling with homeowners.
Where there are homeowners, there is business.
4.Attend church.Belonging to a church is a great
way to promote yourself. Church members typi-
cally feel comfortable with referrals from their fel-
low church members.
