All of these can be jumped
between mid-combo, making
his combo possibilities feel
almost endless. It’s here that
you feel the true evolution of
the core DMC gameplay that’s
been developed throughout the
whole series. Dante has never
felt so responsive to control,
and mixing in everything you
know is a joy.
DANTE’S INFERNO
Dante’s newer weapons, such
as the Balrog and the Cavalier,
feel fresh and exciting. The
former are gauntlets, and
have you actively switching
between punching and kicking
modes, as well as building up
fiery “ignition”. The latter is a
motorbike/chainsaw that’s as
crazy as it sounds, mixing up
heavy hitting spins and literal
wheelies that can strike faster
with correct timing.
It would have been great to
see the Not-London theme
used a bit more in the back half

THE OPM BREAKDOWN
Another success for Capcom.
Devil May Cry has received a
fresh injection of demon blood,
and is as SSStylish as ever. A
treat to look at, and a treat to
play. Oscar Taylor-Kent
of the game. Early sequences
that see you battling your
way through some docks or a
Not-London Underground are
standouts, all cobble and red
telephone boxes. The meaty
interior of the Qliphoth is just
less interesting. But the fights
are consistently interesting.
Capcom avoids the pitfall of
introducing late-game enemies
that are annoying to fight.
More difficult enemies appear,
yes, but they’re all open to
receiving a bashing via any
approach you want to take. It’s
rewarding because of this –
you’re not just slaying demons,
but you’re doing it your way,
always testing yourself to be
slicker, swifter, and, of course,
more Smokin’ Sexy Stylish.

off gently but soon introduces a dizzying array
of weapons and customisation options. It can
be a little daunting, especially if you’re gunning for those

reels you in. Even if you never get that Smokin’ Sexy

SECOND OPINION DEVILISH HUNTER
HOW TO... USE THE CAMEO SYSTEM
When the devil hunters
cross paths, it uses
combat data from other
players in your game.
When the “Starring”
pop-up appears,
someone else is in your
game. When someone
ranks what they saw as
“Stylish”, you get a Gold
Orb in-game too.
TRIPLE THREAT
The three characters feel so distinct
and are such fun to play as it’s
almost like having three polished
games in one package.
SSSCLUB SEVEN
But it very clearly teases even more
playable characters who have
appeared in previous games. Can we
expect DLC? We need it now!
