DEVELOPER ON A ROLL
The gameplay is really fun. It’s
played from an almost top-
down view.The publisher of this release, Outright
Games, is on a bit of a roll. They made
the last Ben 10 game, as well as the Hotel
Transylvania 3 and Paw Patrol: On a Roll
games. This studio even made the big
open-world Adventure Time: Pirates of the
Enchiridion game. After Dragons is out, it
will begin work on a game in the Steven
Universe for the Cartoon Network, too.come from? Unfortunately, Scribber has lost his
memory.At the start of the game we discover
that Hiccup, Toothless and the crew had set
up a dragon sanctuary called Havenholme.
However, it is destroyed by an evil villain who
has kidnapped most of the dragons, and both
Scribbler and Patch are two of the lucky ones
that got away. Unfortunately, in the attack,
Scribbler lost his memory.
So the aim of the game is to help recover
Scribbler’s memory, which in turn will help us
discover where Patch came from. In order to do
that, you need to explore a range of different
islands and – of course – defeat tonnes of
bad dudes while helping captured dragons
escape. Some of these islands you’ll know
from the movies, but there are also new
locations like Valka’s Mountain and Blood Briar
Island.
The gameplay is really fun. It’s played from
an almost top-down view, with Scribbles
and Patch fighting side-by-side and solving
environment puzzles as that navigate through
each of the worlds. You can switch between
the two at any time, which ties not just into
combat, but the puzzle solving. There are also
some flight-based levels and in these you can
barrel-roll and pull basic tricks as you weave in
and out of obstacles.
Combat is your classic hack ‘n’ slash style, so
expect to be whacking and smashing enemies
big and small. Some of the big ones are pretty
huge, too. It is nice how the game mixes the
playstyles up between puzzles, combat and
flight sections. We also like that you can use
collected loot to purchase new equipment. You
definitely get a sense that you and your dragon
are a team who need to become friends and
work together to survive.
If you enjoyed the film, we’re sure you will like
this game. The only feature it’s missing that we
would love to have seen is co-op, but the fact
that it offers a fresh and new story counters
that concern. Get training!
