THE BEST GAMES

WE’RE PLAYING AND

WHY WE LOVE THEM

Drew’s
choice
DARKEST DUNGEON
I thought I’d give this
a go based on Antti’s
recommendation in
this month’s Disc Slot. It’s a great
spin on dungeon-crawling and how
it can affect your heroes’ mental
states. Currently all my adventurers
are gibbering wrecks, and so am I.

Rob’s
choice
THE DIVISION 2
Still playing it! I’ve
finished the game,
now – and this is
where it gets interesting. Playing in
the Dark Zone, PvP with my squad.
I’m already top tier, but now it’s all
about searching for better kit to
fine-tune my build.

THE BEST FILMS AND TV THIS MONTH

films tv

GENTLEMAN JACK
FOR FANS OF Colette, Tipping The Velvet
Penned by Sally Wainwright, this miniseries
follows the life of Anne Lister, the 19th
century businesswoman who shocked high
society by running her own home and
openly pursuing women. It’s a fierce romp
about a woman ahead of her time.

HOMECOMING
FOR FANS OF Gaga: Five Foot Two
Beyoncé has enjoyed so many iconic
moments throughout her career, from the
rise through Destiny’s Child to her 2016
magnum opus Lemonade. This Netflix doc
peeps behind the curtains at the making of
her epic 2018 Coachella performance.

STREET FOOD
FOR FANS OF Ugly Delicious
Calling all foodies! You must watch this
series about street food across Asia, with
each episode focusing on a different
cuisine. Find out about the origins of the
tastiest Asian food and the stories of the
traders whose lives have been shaped by it.

THE MEG
FOR FANS OF Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla
Nothing says ‘trashy Friday night in’ like
eating lots of popcorn and watching this
underwater thriller. It’s a shame that it
lacks real scares, but watching Jason
Statham face off against a shark the size
of a skyscraper is extremely fun.

CLOAK & DAGGER S2
FOR FANS OF The Runaways, Jessica Jones
Cloak & Dagger went ignored last year
despite being one of the most fun Marvel
series. Like a streetwise Romeo and Juliet,
Tandy and Tyrone team up once more to
learn more about their powers and find out
what’s been preying on women in their city.

THE SECRET
OF MARROWBONE
FOR FANS OF The Haunting Of Hill House
The writer of Spanish horror The Orphanage
takes the directorial reins on this spooky
tale of a haunted house. Sergio G Sanchez
handles it beautifully, with a delicate air of
unease and a creeping sense of dread.

THE LOOMING TOWER
FOR FANS OF Homeland
This miniseries takes place in the years
leading up to 9/11, as agent John O’Neill
battles the CIA for vital information and tries
to convince the government of an imminent
terror attack. What could have been
exploitative instead feels hugely relevant.

SNOWPIERCER
FOR FANS OF Train To Busan
Bong Joon-ho’s bonkers sci-fi action film
has come to Netflix. After a new Ice Age
strikes the planet, a train carries the last
remnants of humanity through a frosted
world. To make things worse, there’s an
uprising brewing amongst its passengers.

LUCIFER S4
FOR FANS OF Preacher, Constantine
After Lucifer faced cancellation, its
fandom’s cries to bring it back has led to
its resurrection on Netflix. This season
leans into the supernatural vibe of shows
like iZombie, with delightfully tongue-in-
cheek performances from the cast.

EXTREMELY
WICKED, SHOCKINGLY
EVIL & VILE
FOR FANS OF Mindhunter
Starring Zac Efron as serial killer Ted Bundy,
Extremely Wicked examines the way the
media circus can make celebrities out of
the most depraved people.

GOOD OMENS
FOR FANS OF American Gods
This Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett adaptation
follows a demon and an angel as they team
up to locate a missing Antichrist. A series
of oddball characters and lavish fantasy
sequences will soon make this your
favourite show of 2019.

SUSPIRIA
FOR FANS OF Black Swan
Luca Guadagnino’s stylish remake of
Suspiria accentuates the feeling of a
slow-drip dream. In his hands, it becomes a
sorority house horror where witches lust for
the beauty of young women against an
autumnal vision of ’70s Berlin.

Chris’
choice
RED DEAD ONLINE
Look, I’ve been trying
to play something
else for a change, but
then Rockstar went and made it
tons better and... well, alright, I
might have a bit of an addiction. I
did try and play Alien Isolation now
it’s on Game Pass but it scared me.
