LOVE THIS ISSUE? THE NEXT ONE WILL BE READY FOR YOU ON 28 JUNE

The winter here in Finland is long and dark, so
what’s better suited for that atmosphere than the
menacing, Lovecraft-inspired dungeon-crawler
Darkest Dungeon [1]? It’s really hard not to get
emotionally attached to your favourite heroes,
and harder still to not die a bit inside when they
eventually meet their doom. When I get frustrated,
it’s nice to load up Path Of Exile [2] and let the
hordes of monsters face my anger with a blade,
hammer, axe or whatever instrument fits the
fast-paced action the best. When I really need a
rewarding grind, Path Of Exile does the job for me.
Sometimes, I need a good story-driven adventure
like the Viking-themed The Banner Saga [3]. The
beautiful, low-key score, together with hand-
drawn art and turn-based combat, made me truly
enjoy the adventure of my ragged gang of Viking
exiles and their giant friends. To satisfy the need
of managing something (outside of work) I often
play Prison Architect [4]. Hours easily fly by with
this one as there’s always something happening,
whether it’s new inmates arriving, a newly built
cell block to be opened, or upcoming security
system improvements. It’s rewarding to see daily
life going on smoothly, but naturally, there are often
interruptions to deal with. Finally I’d like to name
Nine Parchments [5], our studio’s previous title.
I’ve had such a blast playing this twin-stick co-op
shooter with my colleagues and friends during and
after development.
