Las Vegas is famous for its themed hotels. How is the Statue of Liberty at the
New York New York hotel similar to the one in New York City? Head to your
school or local library to find out. In this project, you will be reading books or
stories about the concept of similarity. Don’t forget to bring your math
thinking cap and your library card. You’ll want to check out this adventure!
What You’ll Do
Go to a local library and locate books and stories about similarity.
Identify careers that use similarity. Brainstorm other places in life that
you use similarities. Create a poster to share your fi ndings with the class.

- poster board
Procedure
- Take a trip to your local or school library to research information about
similarity and the construction of buildings. Look at the different ways
buildings are constructed and how the design team incorporates outside
influences. As you research, make a list of jobs that use similarity.
