Projects

  1. Select one famous building or statue. Find the actual
measurements and draw a smaller version of it using
a scale factor. Some ideas are:

  • Eiffel Tower

  • Leaning Tower of Pisa

  • Stonehenge

  • Statue of Liberty

  • Colosseum

  • Golden Gate Bridge

  1. Create a poster that contains key facts about similarity and building
design. It should include your scale drawing and any calculations you
used throughout the project. Share your poster with the class.

Making the Connection
Use the information collected about similarity as needed to help in
these investigations.

Art
Create an art project that involves similarity. Where is similarity used in
your artwork?

Science
Research objects found in nature that are similar. What makes the objects
similar? Does their similarity have an impact on their roles in nature?

Language Arts
Write an essay about a career that uses similarity. Include such information
as the type of degree needed, work conditions, and possible industries for
that career.

We hope you enjoyed your experience with
construction and buildings! Now that you have
gained knowledge about similarities and the jobs
that use it, you may find yourself using similarity to
earn a living! Keep up the good work and it will take
you great places.

  • You can use a computer
    projector to help enlarge the
    scale drawing for your poster.
