Server/network
To include:
i) server system of sufficient capability to store and run the required software
and data;
ii) simulator system software installed with suitable own-ship models of different
characteristics and training areas;
iii) full network control, which is interfaced with the installed simulator software
and hydrodynamic modeling data;
iv) the transfer of data between various hardware components may be either
hard wired or using wi-fi provided there is sufficient bandwidth and continuity
of service.
Projection display
A projection or other visual system should be provided so that exercises for group
demonstration of ECDIS functionality, own ship control and techniques of ECDIS-
based navigation can be displayed for instruction and discussion.
Equipment specification for ECDIS navigational mini ship
simulator
This equipment should be designed to demonstrate the trainee’s watch-keeping
capability using ECDIS on a ship’s bridge. This will include demonstrating
navigational decision-making and a realistic simulation of the execution and
monitoring stages of the passage plan created in earlier exercises.
Trainee ECDIS own ship simulator
To include:
i) workstation with ECDIS software and chart data installed with compatible
operating system and VGA card sufficient to run installed ECDIS software
and electronic chart data;
ii) three 19” displays that can separately display ECDIS on the first screen,
radar on the second screen and with engine control navigational equipment
on the other;
iii) if not a full bridge simulator at least one of the displays must be capable of
displaying visual data;
iv) the ECDIS, conning, radar and visual sense must be capable of being
displayed separately and continuously;
v) the system should provide an ECDIS integrated own-ship network with
navigational and ship control functionality and should have the capability to
operate in either an independent or interactive underway context;
