EUSA 33
first 10 years
EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION From foundation on 1999-2009
The Assembly awarded the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
as the Best University in 2009. Mr. Enno Harms Fair Play was
given to the University College Cork, Ireland for their remark-
able behaviour on the European Universities Golf Champion-
ship. The EUSA Order of Merit went to Mr. Dragoljub Bojić
from Serbian University Sports Federation for his lifetime
contribution to the development of the university sports.
Unfortunately, 2009 was also marked by the death of one of
the initiators and the first President of the European Univer-
sity Sports Association, Mr. Enno Harms. The Executive Com-
mittee decided to name the EUSA Fair Play Award after him.
The Executive Committee met on four meetings, organised in
Hamburg, Brussels, Zadar and Vienna. In 2009 EUSA man-
aged to tie a relationship with other Continental Associa-
tions, non European Countries and Universities to exchange
experiences and to collaborate, with EUSA presence, on their
activity, their organisation, providing suggestions when re-
quested and giving possibility of practical support aimed at
a reaching a common growth. This way of working gave the
impulse to the creation, even if only initially, of a Continental
and World University Sport model which is different from the
past. A model that all the Continents, Countries and Univer-
sities are slowly but constantly approaching, aimed at having
a global university sport where all sort of differences can be
progressively reduced in the future.
The main celebration of the 10th Anniversary was held at
the General Assembly in Vienna, Austria. Special recognitions
were awarded at the occasion of 10th anniversary for achieve-
ments 1999-2009. The General Assembly was chaired by Mr.
Stefan Bergh, who also led the 1st EUSA Assembly in 1999.
The delegates approved the reports of the Executive Com-
mittee and Student Commission, annual accounts, modifica-
tion of the statutes, activity program and provisional budget
for 2010. In order to improve the working conditions of the
EUSA Secretariat the decision to invest in the buying of the
new premises in Ljubljana was approved.
