Withtheexceptionofafewcoastalsettlements,Chultis
untamedtropicalwilderness:densejunglesandsnakyrivers
ringedbymountains,volcanoes,andsheerescarpments.Walls
ofmountainstothewest,south,andeastshieldtheinterior
fromtheseaandfromtheviewofsailors.Theriversareso
sluggishthatitcanbedifficultdeterminingwhichdirectionis
upstreamandwhichisdown.Theriverspickupspeedonly
wheretheythunderdownthroughsteep-sidedgorges.
Thesafestentrypointsintothisovergrownrealm(“safest”
isarelativeterminthiscontext)areonthenorthandeast.
ThecoastfromtheBayofChulttoRefugeBayoffersbeaches
onwhichtoembarkintotheunchartedjungle.Alongtheentire
coast,theBayofChultistheonlyspotwheretravelerscanfind
welcomingcivilization.Therestofthepeninsulaisabreeding
groundforbloodsucking,disease-bearinginsects,monstrous
reptiles,carnivorousbirdsandbeastsofeveryvariety,and
murderousundead.Thefartheronemovesfromthecoast,the
morehumid,hot,andinhospitablethelandbecomes.

rainvariesfromasteadymisttodrenchingdownpours.
Visibilityinheavyrainislimitedto 50 yards.Beyondthat
distance,onlyHugeorlargerobjectscanbedistinguished.
Missileweaponrangesarehalvedduringrain.
Ondaysthatreceiveheavyrain,there’sa 25 percent
chanceofafull-blowntropicalstormfeaturingsheetsofrain,
highwind,lightning,tallwavesatsea,andimmensesurfalong
