112 Moving Images: Making Movies, Understanding Media
Project: Client Project
A. Topic for Commercial – For Writing: Promotion, you prepared pre-
production materials for a promotional short. For this project, you
will work in a group that will decide as a team which projects will
be made into motion pictures.
- As with the project in Chapter 2, the instructor will assign a
group and producer. - Please follow the exact same guidelines that are given with
the project in Chapter 2. Students will present their plans and
the group will work to a consensus to approve a proposal. - For this project, the instructor will indicate the time that will
be spent on shooting and the estimated amount of work that
is expected. For example, a group with a complex project
(multiple locations, actors, and setups) may complete one
short, while a group with simple proposals (one location, few
setups and actors) may complete two promos. Your instructor
will indicate the amount of time you will be spending on this
project and will approve your proposal. - Approval – All shorts must be approved by their clients, the
instructor, and individuals in charge of the topic of the promo.

the scene? - Sound Eff ects – Noises should be integrated into the script
of the scene and can be at the core of the confl icts in the
narrative. Th e fi lm should include sound that is clearly
recorded during production and eff ects that are recorded and

or off -screen lines. - Structure – Consider all of the elements above when
planning the commercial.
