A strong biography, with 50 pages on the operas and serenatas. Libretti, pro-
gram notes, and some technical observations. Only 6 of 81 operas survive
complete. Interesting perspectives on the “opera system” of the day, heavy
with financial and administrative intricacies. Worklist, modern editions, foot-
notes, brief bibliography, expansive index.
455.Pimpinone: Intermezzi comici musicali (1708), by Tomaso Albinoni, is v.43 of
RMBE. It is edited by Michael Talbot, who provides an extensive commentary,
including a catalogue of productions and an inventory of extant sources. - Talbot, Michael. “Tomaso Albinoni’sPimpinoneand the Comic Intermezzo.”
In “Con che soavità” (#2461), 229–248.
Talbot “draws heavily” on his preface to the RMBEedition but focuses here
on a 1709 Naples production, bringing out differences between Venetian and
Neapolitan practice. The work is “one of the few sets of comic intermezzi from
the first decade of the 18th century for which the music survives” and both the
composer and librettist (Pietro Pariati) are known. Footnotes identify the liter-
ature on the comic intermezzo.

Compares the two operas, considering libretti, sources, story, premieres, char-
acters and their music. Number-by-number analysis. Bibliography; no index.
Originally the author’s Ph.D. dissertation, U. of Heidelberg, 1984. - Angermüller, Rudoph. “Die wiener Fassung von Pasquale Anfossis Il curioso
indiscreto.” In I vicini di Mozart(#90), v.1, 35–98.
Genesis, with attention to the question of libretto authorship: the usual attri-
bution to Bertati is not supported by contemporary documents, and Giuseppe
Petrosellini is more likely. Reception history and much text with comments.
