  1. (C) The right hemisphere controls the left side of the body and is important in recognizing faces,
    doing spatial tasks, and all sorts of creative pursuits. The left hemisphere plays a larger role in
    speech and language, logical problems, and controlling the right side of the body. Plasticity is the
    brain’s ability to change as the result of experience, and one way it is illustrated is when the
    functions of a damaged part of a brain are taken over by another part of the brain. Since most of
    Genna’s right hemisphere was damaged and removed, plasticity is shown by her ability to perform
    functions associated with that hemisphere after the surgery. The only behavior associated with the
    right hemisphere is moving her left hand.
