Stay healthy

You have just one body for life, so it makes

sense to look after it. Giving your body the

best chance you can means it will work better for

you. That begins with a healthy, mixed diet.

THE HUMAN BODY

EAT A RAINBOW
Foods can be divided into groups, such as grains and
cereals and meat and fish. It is good to eat a range
of foods every day, and choose from all the
major food groups, eating more of some
and less of others (for example, you
should eat more fruit than meat or
fish). Thinking of food groups
as a rainbow of colors can
help to separate foods
into these groups.

GRAINS Bread,
rice, and pasta, as
well as potatoes,
are largely
carbohydrate,
the body’s main
source of energy.

VEGETABLES
are rich in fiber
and in the
vitamins and
minerals our
bodies need for
growth and
repair.

FRUIT is a
source of
vitamins, water,
and fiber, as well
as natural sugars.

OIL/SUGAR
Small quantities
of oil are needed
in the diet. A
good source is
oily fish, such as
salmon. Try to
limit sugar.

DAIRY products,
such as cheeses
and yogurts, are
a rich source of
calcium, which
helps your bones
and teeth.

MEAT, FISH,
BEANS, AND
LENTILS
provide protein
for growth and
repair, as well
as vitamins and
minerals.
