On the previous pages are examples of what you will receive
from a college offering you athletic financial aid: A National
Letter of Intent and an Athletic Tender of Financial Assistance.
Please note that both of these samples include a line item
with a $ sign. This is the amount (or value) you will receive in
athletic financial aid. Some Division III institutions also issue
a National Letter of Intent, even though NCAA regulations
require that Division III colleges claim they offer no athleti-
cally related financial aid. This is normally done to “lock in”
the prospect so that he/she can only compete at that institu-
tion. (More on this bogus claim later.)
