30 The Sports Scholarships Insider’s Guide

  1. I will make successful recruit-
ment my priority. If I must miss
time with friends or must choose
    between other things or activi-
ties and pursuing my goal, I will
pursue my goal. I will devote 100
percent of the time and effort nec-
    essary to achieve my goal.

  2. I will:

    • Create an irresistible profile.

    • Send profiles and cover letters to
      50 college swimming coaches in
      Division II and III.

    • Organize a communications log
      and file folder holder.

    • Respond immediately to every
      request for information from any
coach until I know I don’t want to
      attend that college.

    • Visit at least three colleges.

    • Gain acceptance into at least two
      colleges.

    • Negotiate with the coach for the
best financial aid package at the
      school of my choice.

    • Use The Sports Scholarships Insider’s
      Guide suggestions and processes.
I know it won’t be easy, but I can
and I will discipline myself and make
      sacrifices to accomplish my goal.

  • It’s easy to let others take
    care of you.

  • I t’s easy to whine about
    how tough life is.

  • It’s easy to not try
    something challenging,
    and therefore avoid
    disappointment.

  • I t’s easy to blame your
    disappointment on others.

  • It’s easy to blame others
    for your lack of
    accomplishment.

  • I t’s easy to blame
    circumstances for a
    lack of achievement.

It’s important to remember,
as you proceed toward
the future, the only place
that cheese is free is in a
mousetrap.
