OBSESSIONS
WHEN MY HUSBAND, Jason, and I decided to build our dream
home in the Catskill Mountains of New York, I knew instantly
I wanted (excuse me, needed!) a kitchen designed for efficiently—
and equally—working and entertaining. After all, if this is where
I was planning to spend my days developing recipes and my
evenings hosting family and friends, it needed to check all the
boxes. In addition to lots of hidden yet accessible storage for my
tools, I wanted space to showcase both high-use serveware and
the handmade items I use for dinner parties and my food pho-
tography. The F&W test kitchen, where I cooked for nearly a
decade, inspired me to create a clean, bright space that is, of
course, highly functional. And, just like at Food & Wine, the
heart is a giant island where I not only shoot my Food & Wine
video series, Mad Genius, but also convene regularly with the
folks I love over great food, delicious beverages, and the best
conversations. —JUSTIN CHAPPLE
