As you can see in the illustration, many parts make up a conventional coil spring suspension system. The green
parts are the upper and lower control arms. These connect to the vehicle’s frame via the use of rubber and
steel bushings. The purple part is the steering knuckle. This connects the control arms via upper and lower ball
joints. The orange part is the coil spring, and the yellow part is the shock absorber. With so many parts that
make up this system, it’s no wonder that wear is a fact of life, and alignment angles go out from constant
road jostle.
