How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Avoid Expensive Repairs, Improve Fuel Economy, Understand Your Warranty, Save Money

The front fitting uses a round spring clip that resides inside the fuel line where it connects to the filter. This
type of fitting requires a special, inexpensive tool. Open the tool, fit it around the fuel line, and then press a
collar inside the tool up into the fitting holding the spring clip. This releases the clip and allows you to pull the
filter free. Note: Some fuel filters reside in inconvenient places and may require a lot more work, such as
disconnecting and lowering the fuel tank. If you buy the filter and find you are in over your head, stop before
you disconnect any fittings. Any garage can change the filter for you. Your manual will tell you the service
interval for filter replacement. Typically, it’s 15,000–30,000 miles. To install the new filter, reverse the removal
procedure.
