MAINTENANCE TIP
A simple way to avoid battery trouble when the cold weather hits is to have a
battery load/hydrometer test performed. During this procedure, the battery is
put under an extreme electrical load for a predetermined amount of time.
Then the technician releases the load and observes how it returns to a
complete state of charge. The hydrometer test reveals the state of charge
between each cell. If more than a 20 percent variance is found between cells,
then the battery is junk and should be replaced.
