IGNITION SWITCH
The ignition switch is found on the steering column. When the key is turned, a
small gear turns and actuates a lever that is attached to the linkage rod that goes
to the ignition switch. The linkage rod pushes on the ignition switch and
activates it. Voltage is routed to the starter circuit, and the vehicle starts. The
ignition switch goes bad from age and wear. Electrical contacts within the switch
wear out, so the starter circuit doesn’t engage and the car is dead. A few tests
will confirm a bad switch. If so, replace it and you’re off to the races.
