Where Scoliosis Affects
Scoliosis affects the spine in three major sections: the cervical
spine also known as the neck, the thoracic spine known as
the upper back region and chest, and the lumbar spine
known as the lower back.
Complications
In extreme scoliosis, the rib cage can strain against the lungs
and abdomen, causing it difficult to breathe and harder for
the heart to pump. Individuals who have scoliosis as kids are
more likely than those in the general population to have
constant back pain. As scoliosis worsens, it can also cause
more visible changes, including irregular hips and uneven
shoulders.
