SETUP 1 GO ABSTRACT
WITH YOUR LANDSCAPES
Intentional camera movement (ICM) is a
great way to achieve a shot full of colour
and motion. The technique involves panning
the camera from side-to-side using the
horizontal control on your tripod head
(above). Go into your Shutter Priority (Tv)
mode and set a shutter speed to 1/15 sec.
Now frame up on the left-most point of your
scene and focus on it, make sure the horizon
is level and begin the exposure, then pan the
head along the horizontal axis to the right
until the exposure has ended.
Kit needed: Kit lens, tripod
Exposure: 1/15 sec, f/22, ISO100
SETUP 2 GET IN A SPIN
This time we’re going to twist the camera
while the shutter is open to create dynamic
circular blur. Begin by putting your camera
into its Shutter Priority (Tv) mode and set
the shutter speed to 1/10 sec and ISO to
- Shooting up towards a tree canopy
works well. Just aim up and choose your
focal length – the wider the focal length,
the more prominent the effect. Now focus
on the tree tops and press the shutter to
begin the exposure and instantly twist your
camera like a steering wheel to create the
effect. Experiment with shutter speed and
how fast you spin your camera to change
the amount of blur in the resulting image.
Kit needed: Kit lens
Exposure: 1/10 sec, f/16, ISO100
