taking each self-portrait and
then positioning both side-by-
side in Photoshop. The hardest
part was making sure I was in
focus. I’ve learned to place a
SLHFHRIWDSHRQWKHÁRRU
where I’ll stand and I make
sure the camera is focused to
that distance. I can usually get
a sharp picture now with just
a couple of attempts.
Some people told me that I
shouldn’t be talking about how
,IHHOZKHQ,ÀUVWVWDUWHGEXW,
wasn’t going to let peer
pressure stop me talking about
these hard subjects. The image
Shhh! is my way of rebelling
back at them. To do it I used

me to illuminate my face and
placed another behind me to
get the rim lighting around my

them with triggers.
The image Serenity was
taken at my parent’s house,
when after many years of
recovery I arrived at this
moment of contention. This
picture serves as a reminder to
me that I have a great family, a
wonderful wife, good job and
a phenomenal life – it’s a
picture my Mom cherishes.
For some, photography is a
professional job. But for me it’s
therapy and even a cure. It’s
not about getting huge
numbers of likes or followers
on Instagram or Facebook, it’s
about expressing myself. I’d
like to thank PhotoPlus for
sparking new ideas and
providing me with the
technical knowledge to use
my Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
After many years of recovery I arrived
at this moment of contention which I caught
on camera and called serenity
