CHAPTER 5. HOW EARBUDS/HEADPHONE WORKS.

Almost everyone likes to listen to music. If we aretravelling or sleeping, are in a public place or
at home we listen to music. Imagine if we have totake large stereo speakers to every place
whenever we want to listen to music and play soundin an environment where it will disturb
everyone around us is not practical. In such timeswe use Headphones/ Earbuds which help us
listen to music privately even in public without disturbingothers. Headphones are miniature
speakers fixed to your ears. The main difference betweenearphone and loudspeakers is size,
the loudspeaker needs to all the air in the room movingto produce the sound whereas
earphone just needs to move air inside ear canal moveto produce the sound that moves
eardrum so they are so small that they just fit ears.

The earphone has many different parts in it but oneof the main parts is the jack. Jack is a
conductor which is connected to the phone or any otherdevice from which one is listening to
music. The jack is a stout, shiny needle that is pluggedinto your device, it is made up of three
layers of conductor stacked one on the top of the
other and these layers are separated by a strip of
insulation.

The tip of the jack is called thetip, while the middlepart is called the sleeve and the uppermost
part is called the ring. The jack is thus called theTRS connector.

The Jack is the part of the earphone which is connectedto the power supply to power the
earphone. The tip of the jack is connected to thewire that powers the left earphone, whereas
the sleeve is connected to the wire that powers theright earphone. The ring is connected to the
ground wire because without ground wire the circuitis not complete. Some of the earphones
that are used while video calls have 4 parts in thejack because they have a microphone to
receive sound, so the 4thpart is connected to thewire that powers microphones.

By seeing the connection we found that earphones area circuit, but a circuit cannot exist with a
single wire so earphones have two wires, one thatconnects the source to the transducer and
