Let me point out here that Alicia didn’t give
Michael an ultimatum. She clearly expressed her
feelings and let him know where she stood. He
understood her position. However, he didn’t have a
solution to the situation at the time. He also liked
her and didn’t want to make the situation worse,
causing Alicia to become disinterested in him
completely. He agreed to part ways in hopes that
they’d have a chance to try again once he figured out
how to fit her into his life.
Michael didn’t come to me for coaching.
However, I have worked with countless men, like
Michael, who have come to me for advice regarding
help on balancing a newly found love interest and
the rest of the priorities in their lives.
I usually simply recommend that they try asking
the woman what she wants. Only she can tell him
how much communication she needs from him
daily/weekly to feel satisfied while trying to build a
relationship. Once she communicates that she’d like
a call at least two to three times a week and that
would be enough to start. He then needs to decide if
he can meet that need because now, he’s clear about
what she needs from him. Boom, problem solved.
